If you walk through the Recording Division, you might not notice Diana right away. Most days, she works quietly behind the scenes, processing documents, and making sure every detail lines up. But when auction day arrives, Diana steps into the Courtroom Annex, calling bids with confidence.
A Move South and a Fresh Start
Diana’s life took a big turn when she traded Long Island for St. John’s County. Her husband had just retired from Verizon, and with her parents already settled in Florida, the move felt right. Sunshine, family, and a slower pace pulled them in.
She didn’t jump straight into work. At first, she focused on family. But when her daughter went off to college, Diana decided it was time to head back to work. That’s when she joined the Clerk’s Office.
Her role? Recording. And she enjoys her time at the Office.
“I really enjoy it,” she says. “I’ve seen other internal job postings, but I just can’t see myself leaving recording.”
Finding Joy in the Details
A typical day keeps her moving. Diana handles tax deed cases. She prepares auctions, coordinates with the Sheriff’s Office, and sends notices to property owners. On auction day, she becomes an auctioneer, calling bids from the courtroom microphone. “Never in a million years did I think I’d be an auctioneer,” she laughs.
But that’s not all. She works with e-recordings too, reviewing documents from title companies and making sure everything is ready to process into the Official Records. She also pitches in helping customers at the counter, answering phones, and ensuring residents have the right documents and paperwork. “If it were me, I’d want to know exactly what to bring with my paperwork,” she says.
Her work touches big life moments. Marriages. Home sales. Passports. Most customers leave with a smile. “People are thankful,” she explains. “That’s the best part.”
The Recording Division thrives on teamwork. If someone is busy with an application, another Clerk jumps in to take passport photos. If a notary is needed, colleagues step up. “It’s a really nice team environment,” Diana says.
Work. Music. Balance.
Life in St. Johns County suits her family well. The perks? No state tax, of course. But also the music scene. Diana and her husband are regulars at local venues like Café Eleven, the Florida Theatre, and the amphitheater. When there’s no show, they wander downtown St. Augustine, soaking in the live music on St. George Street.
For Diana, it’s all about balance. Work that challenges her. A team that supports her. And a community rich with music, family, and sunshine.
“It’s a great atmosphere at the Clerk’s Office,” she says, smiling.
