Official communications about traffic citations are sent to the email address provided or the official address of record. Wireless Communications Device Citations

A person may not operate a motor vehicle while using a wireless communications device in a handheld manner in a designated school crossing, school zone, or work zone area. 

As a 1st time violator, you have the following options:  

  • Pay in full 
  • Dispute citation and request hearing  
  • Attend Wireless Communications Device Driving Safety Course. This driving safety course is specific to violations of F. S. 316.306(3a). You must notify the Clerk of your election within 30 days of the citation’s issuance. Upon completion of the Wireless Communications Device Course, you must provide proof of course completion to the Clerk. Commercial driver license (CDL) holders  are eligible to take the Wireless Communications Device Course. The Wireless Communications Device Course does not count as an annual or lifetime school election.  
  • Provide Proof of Purchase of Hands-Free Device and pay $18 

Past Due Traffic Citation that has been referred to collections
:
  • The Clerk’s Office forwards unpaid fines to a collection agency after 90 days from the compliance date. The collection agency will assess fees up to 40% of the amount owed.  
  • Please call the Clerk’s Office at (904) 819-3600 to verify the collections agency. 
  • Once payment is made to the collection agency, the payment is not immediately sent the Clerk’s Office. The collection agency verifies your funds before submitting payment confirmation to the Clerk’s Office.
Satisfaction of Financial Obligation  
  • If you hold a Florida Driver License, our office can electronically clear the suspension on your driver license. This action DOES NOT REINSTATE YOUR DRIVING PRIVLEGE. You must physically visit your local DMV to pay reinstatement fees.  
  • If you hold an “out of state” driver license, our office will issue a D6 Clearance letter to the address we have on file. Once you receive the D6 Clearance Letter, you must present it to your driver license bureau and comply with the requirements of your home state.

  • The following cases require a mandatory court appearance and are permitted to appear via Zoom:  
    • Speed > 30 over
    • Citation with serious bodily injury or fatality
  • Arraignments are set first.  If you plead not guilty, then a hearing date will be set. The issuing officer and witnesses may be subpoenaed.
  • If you cannot attend in person, you must file a motion to continue the civil traffic hearing or complete an affidavit of defense in lieu of appearing 24 hours prior to your scheduled court date.

You must select one of the following four options within 30 calendar days of receiving the ticket. If you don’t select an option, your driver license may be suspended and your case referred to a collection agency. 

Option 1: Pay in full.  

  • Tickets for insurance, registration, and failure to carry a driver’s license CANNOT be paid online or over the phone. Please call (904) 819-3600.

  • You will have 60 additional days to complete the traffic school.

: Conditional Plea of 
No Contest (No points and no court appearance) 

All proof of compliance documentation (such as an insurance card, registration, and failure to carry a driver’s license) can be emailed to traffic@stjohnsclerk.com or submitted in-person. 

Proof of Insurance 

  • If insurance is valid at the time of the traffic stop, submit proof of insurance and pay a $10 dismissal fee. 
  • If insurance was obtained after the citation was issued, submit proof, complete the Plea of Nolo Contendere and pay $80.90 fee. 
  • If you do not have insurance, you must complete the insurance rejection letter and pay the fine. 
  • If you do not have insurance and do not own the vehicle operated at the time of the citation, you must provide proof (registration) and pay the fine. 

 
Registration F. S. 320.0605 

  • If registration is valid at the time of the traffic stop, submit proof of registration and pay a $10 dismissal fee. 
  • If registration was renewed after the citation was issued, submit proof of renewed registration and pay the fine. 
  • If registration cannot be obtained, complete the vehicle owner affidavit and pay the fine. 


Driver License F. S. 322.15 

  • If your driver license was valid at the time of the traffic stop, submit proof and pay a $10 dismissal fee. 
  • If no valid driver license, pay fine.  

 
“Fix it” Ticket 

Operating a motor vehicle in unsafe condition 

  • Must be approved by issuing law enforcement agency
  • Pay fine
  • Faulty Equipment Affidavit with payment of $96) 


Air pollution control equipment, tampering 
 

  • Must be approved by issuing law enforcement agency

To be eligible to attend traffic school
 

  • You may not have elected to attend traffic school within the last 12 months. 
  • You may not have attended traffic school more than eight times within your lifetime. 
  • You may not hold a commercial driver license or been cited while driving a commercial motor vehicle.  

To verify your eligibility, use the Driver License Check provided by the Department of Highway Safety Motor Vehicles.

St. Johns County Parking Citation

  • If you do not pay within 30 days, a late fee will be assessed, and the case will be set for court.
  • To dispute the citation and request a court hearing, please complete the Parking Citation Court Request.
  • To pay a past due citation or a case already set for court, please call (904) 819-3600.


St. Augustine Beach Citation

  • Parking Citations issued by the St. Augustine Beach Police Department are due within 30 days to the City Finance Department at 2200 A1A South, St. Augustine Beach, FL 32080.
  • To pay, please visit Citation Payment | St Augustine Beach Police.
  • To dispute the citation and request a court hearing, requests must be mailed or made in-person at the City Finance Department at 2200 A1A South, St. Augustine Beach, FL 32080.
  • If you do not pay within 30 days, a late fee will be assessed, and the case will be filed with the Clerk’s Office for a court hearing.
  • To pay a past due citation forwarded to the Clerk’s Office, please call (904) 819-3600.


City of St. Augustine Parking Ticket

  • Parking Citations issued by the St. Augustine City Police Department are only maintained by the Clerk when a hearing request is made.  
  • If you have a parking citation issued in Downtown St. Augustine or within the city limits, please visit Pay a Ticket / Parking Invoices | St. Augustine, FL or call (904) 825-1034.
  • To request a court hearing for a St. Augustine City Parking Citation, please call (904) 825-1034. 


If a court date is set and you are unable to appear in person, an Affidavit of Defense may be filed in lieu of your appearance.

You MAY set up a payment plan if:  

  • You need more time to pay. 
  • Your case was not referred to a Collections Agency for nonpayment. 
  • You had a payment plan before and failed to comply. MAXIMUM 3 attempts.


You MAY NOT set up a payment plan if: 
 

  • There is a court date scheduled in your case.  


You are required to pay a $25 administrative fee to set up the plan, which is not applied towards the amount owed on the case.
