If you’ve ever watched a Board of County Commissioners meeting and wondered who’s keeping track of every decision, every vote, every exhibit — chances are, it’s Minutes and Records Clerk, Artricia Allen. Beyond the quiet confidence she brings to the job, she has a creative spark that lights up more than just a meeting room.

Artricia joined the clerk’s office in February 2022. Before that, she worked for 15 years at an orthopedic office. “They were merging with another company,” she said. “I just felt ready for a change.”

That change came after seeing a job posting for the Clerk’s Office. It wasn’t her first time applying. “I really wanted to be in the courthouse,” she said. “I thought I’d be going to court and handling cases.”

Instead, she landed in the Minutes and Records Division. And as it turned out, it was a perfect fit.

“I’m actually kind of shy,” Artricia admits with a laugh. “But this job pushes me out of my comfort zone.”

Her day-to-day role is far from simple. She prepares agendas, proofreads materials, sets up meeting templates, and takes official minutes during board meetings. “I record everything too, so if I miss something, I can go back and correct it,” she said.

During meetings, she handles roll call, reads out resolution and ordinance numbers, and sometimes handles unexpected duties — like swearing in witnesses.

While taking minutes might sound like simple note-taking, there’s an art to it. “It’s a summary of the action taken,” she explained, noting that minutes also include the context leading to decisions, key discussion points, and public comments to provide a more complete and informative record.

Outside of board meetings, Artricia wears many hats. She attends Value Adjustment Board hearings, budget meetings, and anything else the Commissioners are part of.

“You’re never just doing one thing,” she said. “There is always something to process — from processing advertisement bids and contracts to handling attorney records requests and check run reports.”

Artricia is a local, and while her day job is grounded in facts and formalities, her off-hours are all about flair and imagination.

“I love decorating,” she said. “I do party planning, events, anything creative.” She also finds joy in her church and crafts often, sometimes sparked by a random idea she’ll immediately dive into. “I’ll be like, I should try this — and I just go for it,” she said with a smile.

Despite being a bit shy, Artricia hasn’t let nerves hold her back. “At first, I called a Commissioner by the wrong name during roll call,” she recalled, cringing at the memory. “But I apologized right after, and now I make sure to get it right every time.”

The job, she says, has helped her grow. “It’s made me come out of my shell a little.”

Part of that growth is thanks to the team around her. “I love my team,” she said. “If I’m unsure about something, they’ll listen and help me figure it out. We all work together, especially with deadlines.”

What stands out most about Artricia isn’t just her attention to detail or her ability to juggle so many roles. It’s her mix of humility, creativity, and commitment to doing a job that often goes unseen — but never unimportant.

Whether it’s capturing the official decisions of the County or transforming a church hall into a party space, Artricia brings passion and precision to everything she does.
