From Official Records and passport applications to marriage ceremonies, Cheyenne has found her stride in the Clerk’s Office—right in the heart of the community she’s always called home.

Born and raised in St. Augustine, she recognizes the challenges that come with the growth in St. Johns County. “I’ve been here my whole life,” she says. “I’ve seen it change a lot, but I still love it.”

Though the development has been bittersweet, she finds comfort in the way people still rally around causes that matter. “When Anastasia State Park was at risk, the whole community stepped up. That meant a lot,” she says.

A Quiet Start

Before joining the Clerk’s Office, Cheyenne worked at CVS as a store associate. It was a job that surprised her. “I didn’t expect to be good at customer service,” she said. “I’m kind of reserved. But I really liked helping people.”

She brought that same quiet strength into her new role at the Clerk’s Office. Now she helps customers every day with essential services and concerns. Whether she’s helping with fraud alert registrations or providing copies of Official Records, she’s often the first person people speak to when they feel overwhelmed.

“We see a lot of elderly people. Some come in with suspicious emails,” she says. “I walk through it with them. Show them the red flags. It feels good to help.”

One customer came in unsure if an email from his bank was real. “I showed him the grammar mistakes. It was clearly fake,” she says. “He was so grateful.”

A Passport to Purpose

Of all her duties, passport applications are her favorite. “I love hearing where people are going because I also love to travel,” she says with a smile.

Last year she worked Passport Saturday—an event the Office holds to help the public apply for passports outside regular business hours. “No one came to my window unprepared,” she said, crediting the prescreening of documents done by fellow Clerks. “Everything ran smoothly.”

“I enjoy putting the applications together,” she says. “Each one is different, and I like the formulaic process.” It’s that mix of pace and purpose that keeps her engaged.

Finding Her Flow

At her desk, she moves with quiet confidence. “I’ve got passports down. I know marriages. I have my notes. I feel good about working independently now.”

But that confidence didn’t come overnight. “In the beginning, I had questions every day,” she says. “But no one makes you feel bad about asking. Everyone just wants to help.”

She credits her team—especially Rita, a Master Clerk—for helping her build a strong foundation. “It’s like a little family,” she says. “Everyone’s got each other’s back.”

During busy periods, the team steps up. “If I’m working with a family, another Clerk will offer to handle the photos so I can keep going,” she says.  “It flows when we all work together.”

More Than a Job

Outside of work, Cheyenne’s an artist at heart. “I write, I draw, mostly digital now,” she says. She’s been working on a story and dreams of publishing it one day. Maybe even turning it into a webcomic. “That would be really cool.”

What started as a curious job application has turned into something more. “I saw the posting and thought, I can do that,” she said. “So I did. And it has changed everything.”

She’s found more than a job. “This feels like a great career,” she says. “There’s opportunity here. Support. Growth. I feel like I belong.”

And for someone who enjoys customer service, that means everything.
