When Lucy Blaszkiewicz made a career shift, she didn’t just change jobs. She flipped the script.
Before joining the Clerk’s Office, Lucy worked as an administrative coordinator in a medical office. When her cousin tipped her off about an opening at the Clerk’s Office, Lucy didn’t hesitate. “I wanted a career change, so I did a 180,” she says.
Starting in the Criminal Division, she worked in felony. Six months later, she moved to misdemeanor. Then something caught her eye: evidence. She spotted someone in the evidence role and thought, “That’s what I would’ve picked if I’d known it was an option.” So, when the opportunity opened up, Lucy jumped on it.
Today, she manages evidence across the entire office – criminal and civil. And she takes that responsibility seriously.
“When I’m handling evidence, I feel like I’m protecting it. It’s trusted to me,” Lucy explains. It’s not just papers and files. But real-world items tied to real people and serious cases. From drugs and weapons to something as wild as human bones, Lucy has seen it all.
Yes, bones. Spinal pieces. Teeth. Even a bike with a trailer. “I was told we had a pair of hands years ago,” she says. “But mostly it’s the bones that stick with me.”
The job isn’t for the faint of heart. She wears gloves and a mask while handling hazardous materials and keeps Narcan close by. The stakes are high, especially with evidence tied to life sentences. But Lucy remains calm, collected, and fully prepared.
What makes her thrive in the Criminal Division? “It’s where I started. I want to finish what I began,” she says. And she’s not just riding it out. She’s leveling up. Lucy already has her evidence certification. She’s now working on jury duty and aims to get certified in every area of the criminal division.
Her goal? Be ready to fill in wherever, and whenever, she’s needed.
When court procedures changed and responsibilities shifted, Lucy was right there helping with the transition. But it’s not just her work ethic that shines. It’s her passion.
She grew up watching Law & Order SVU and NCIS, especially inspired by the quirky forensic tech with the goth vibe. “I’m not in forensics,” Lucy admits. “But I get to see the physical items and understand the story behind them. That’s really cool to me.”
At the Clerk’s Office, she’s found her own version of that TV drama energy – only real. And she’s building a career with purpose.
“Lucy is positive and friendly to everyone, I think she looks for ways to brighten people’s day even if it’s just saying hello and asking them how they are doing or offering them candy,” says Criminal Division Director, Tara Schultz.
“Lucy is the definition of a team player,” Tara added. “She is always willing to lend a hand wherever help is needed; she assists with customer and agency emails, call center inquires, language interpreting for customer calls and recently, she assisted the Clerk’s Office with the Valentine’s Day Group Wedding and Vow Renewal Ceremony.”
Her support system helps. Lucy praises her colleagues, especially Adrean, Tara, and Natalia. “Adrean knows the courtroom inside and out. Tara handles so much with a calm attitude. And Natalia always has your back. You never feel judged.”
Lucy’s not just about evidence, either. She’s part of the translator group, helping Spanish and Portuguese speakers navigate the system. She also supports the emergency call line when divisions are short-staffed.
“Lucy has been an invaluable asset to the Customer Care Call Center through her ongoing support as a member of the interpreter group, consistently assisting our Spanish-speaking customers with professionalism and care,” says Customer Care Director, Stacy Vaughn.
“Recently, recognizing a staffing shortage, Lucy took the initiative to log in and begin monitoring calls, stepping in to assist customers waiting to speak with the next available clerk.”
With so many hats and even more ambition, does she see herself moving up the ladder?
Absolutely. “One step at a time,” she says with a smile. “As long as I have that push and people around me who support me, I’m good.”
Lucy is the kind of person who brings quiet strength, endless curiosity, and a touch of TV-show cool to a job that matters. And she’s just getting started.
