Three and a half years ago, Saundra made a big change. She left a doctor’s office job that offered little room to grow and joined the Clerk’s Office. “I wanted to better myself,” she says. “Lovinue, my friend and former coworker, was already here and kept encouraging me to apply.” It turned out to be the right move.
From Meetings to Motorists
Saundra started out working in Minutes and Records, attending meetings for the Board of County Commissioners. “It was a lot,” she laughs. Minutes, budget hearings, Value Adjustment Board (VAB) meetings—you name it. She even helped run the VAB meetings toward the end. “Very interesting,” she says with a smile. “You definitely see and hear it all.”
Six months ago, she switched to the Traffic Division, where her days are fast-paced and full of variety. “It’s different,” she says. “Makes you want to drive better.”
Each day, Saundra helps process electronic citations—tickets sent in from law enforcement. “We verify everything looks right,” she explains. “If it’s a serious crash or a big speeding violation, we flag it differently.” Going 30 miles over the limit means a mandatory court date. Over 100 miles per hour? That’s criminal. “We have to keep an eye out for those.”
The team rotates weekly duties, switching between cashiering, handling court dockets, and processing filings from attorneys. Thursdays are usually court days, when the hearing officer comes in. “If someone has a clean record for three years, we can recommend withholding points,” Saundra says. “They still pay the fine, but they don’t get the points on their license.”
Teamwork That Clicks
Ask Saundra what keeps her going, and she’ll tell you—it’s the people. “We all get along great,” she says. “Everyone helps each other out. Our Division director and supervisor jump in whenever needed. Same with our senior clerk. No one hesitates to answer questions.”
The teamwork shows. Even with new hires joining the division, the vibe stays positive. “Everything’s going good,” she says with an easy smile.
Florida Roots and Family Drive
Born and raised in St. Augustine, Saundra has deep Florida roots. “I love the beach,” she says. “Near the pier is my favorite spot. My family doesn’t care for it much, but I could sit there all day.”
When she’s not working, she’s busy being Mom. Her kids, ages 10 and 5, keep her calendar full. “My oldest plays Little League and travel softball,” she says. “My youngest is in tee ball.” And when they’re not on the field, they’re on the track. “They both race go-karts,” she says proudly. “We’ve gone as far as South Carolina. At Daytona, there were 24 karts racing at once!”
Family means everything to her. Her dad still lives in town, and her brother—an Air Force veteran—resides in Cocoa Beach. “It’s nice having family close,” she says. “St. Augustine is a great place to be from.”
Always Moving Forward
From meetings to traffic citations, from softball fields to go-kart tracks, Saundra keeps life in motion. Her days are full, her outlook bright, and her spirit steady.
“I came here to better myself,” she says. “And I did.”
