ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla., February 20, 2024 — St. Johns County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller announced today that St. Johns County government was awarded the Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA’s) Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for fiscal year 2022.
“St. Johns County is again recognized for maintaining a high level of transparency and accessibility with its finances,” said Clerk Brandon J. Patty. “While my office coordinates the annual financial report, county administration, especially the Office of Management and Budget and the Department of Economic Development, and each of the constitutional officers share in the credit for a job well done.”
According to GFOA, the certificate of achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. The county’s annual financial report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly share financial information and motivate the public to review the report. Its attainment represents only the top 5% of 87,000 U.S. and Canadian governments achieving the distinction.
