ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla., February 21, 2024 — The St. Johns County Clerk of Courts and County Comptroller will host a Passport Saturday event on March 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Richard O. Watson Judicial Center in St. Augustine. This special one-day event will make applying for a passport more convenient for residents. No appointment is required to participate.
“We know it can be challenging for working individuals and families to apply for passports during the week,” said Clerk of Courts and County Comptroller, Brandon J. Patty. “This event makes the process that much more convenient. Our great team of deputy clerks will be ready to assist applicants through the process as quickly as possible.”
Anyone traveling internationally, including infants, must have a passport. Every passport applicant must appear in person, regardless of age. Children 15 years or younger must be accompanied by both parents or legal guardians. For 16 or 17-year-olds, one parent or guardian must be present.
The special passport event offers greater convenience to residents who may have delayed applying and could ultimately find themselves in a time crunch, requiring more costly expedited passport service. According to the U.S. Department of State, the routine processing time for a passport is between 6 to 8 weeks. Paying an additional $60 fee to the U.S. Department of State to expedite the application speeds up the process to 2 to 3 weeks.
Clerk staff will be on hand to accept, review, and certify applications for first-time passports or new passports for individuals whose previous passport was issued more than 15 years ago, whose name has changed, minors under age 16, or whose passport was lost, stolen, or damaged. Most passport renewals can be completed by the applicant using Form DS-82 and filed by mail.
Adults must bring a valid driver license or state identification card (ID). If your identification was issued within the last six months, a second form of ID is required. Applicants must also bring an original or certified copy of their birth certificate or consular birth abroad certificate with both parent’s names listed and, if applicable, a previously issued, non-damaged passport, passport card, or naturalization certificate.
Two separate forms of payment are needed for each application. A personal check, money order, or cashier check made payable to the U.S. Department of State is required for the passport fee, which varies from $100 to $209.53 (depending on the type of passport and service), and $35 to the clerk. The clerk’s office accepts cash, money order, check, and credit cards.
Clerk staff will also be available to take passport photos for $10.65. You may use your own photo if it meets U.S. Department of State guidelines.
The St. Johns County courthouse location accepts passport applications Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., and the Clerk of Court’s annexes in Ponte Vedra and Julington Creek provide passport services by appointment only. Passport Services are available on Monday and Wednesday in Ponte Vedra and Tuesday and Thursday in Julington Creek. To schedule an appointment, please call (904) 819-3632.
