ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla., December 2, 2024 — The St. Johns County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller’s office, in partnership with St. Johns County Legal Aid and the Law Office of Nancy Harrison, invites residents to attend the upcoming Family Law Workshop on Wednesday, Dec. 4, from 12 PM to 1 PM, at the Richard O. Watson Judicial Center.
“Understanding the court system can be complex,” said John Rundgren, Clerk Designee. “This partnership offers valuable guidance on the steps needed to navigate family law proceedings.”
“During a divorce in Florida, a court will equitably distribute the parties’ marital assets and debts,” said Attorney Nancy Harrison. “The court begins with the presumption that the division will be equal, but there are other factors to consider. An accurate financial affidavit is a useful tool for the court in determining the marital and non-marital assets and debts. Providing the proper evidence to the court can be straightforward, even if you are representing yourself.”
This free event is open to the public and will be available virtually for convenience. It is designed to help residents understand intricate family law matters, including divorce, child custody, asset division, and filing pleadings without an attorney. Our goal is to ensure all residents have the information they need to make informed decisions and benefit from legal counsel’s guidance as they manage the filing process.
Nancy C. Harrison, Esq., P.L., who specializes in family law, will volunteer her time through St. Johns County Legal Aid to provide general legal advice and discuss family law and domestic violence statutes.
