Master Clerk Training and Development Program
Master Clerk is a transparent and predictable career development program for clerks of the St. Johns County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller’s office. All Clerk training and testing is done in-house and entry-level positions do not require previous experience.
Positions that fall under the Master Clerk program start at $15.02 an hour. On-the-job training is provided by our highly qualified staff.
Master Clerk Program Levels
Master Clerk is comprised of two career paths: Supervisory and Non-Supervisory. A new clerk will begin as an Apprentice Clerk, regardless of the path. A clerk may choose to maintain a level of Certified Clerk or to advance through either the Supervisory or Non-Supervisory paths.
Non-Supervisory Requirements and Responsibilities

Deputy Clerk | Pass deputization testing and take oath. Approximately 3 months in the Clerk’s office is required. | Complete duties with oversight. Progress to achieve certification. |
Certified Clerk | Pass certification test for position after 6 months in the Clerk’s office. | Operate independently/efficiently in department without supervision. |
Senior Clerk | Certified in every department within the division. Successful completion of interview process. 5 years of experience required. | Division subject matter expert/mentor. Support daily duties. Works with Director/Supervisor on training and morale. Trains Apprentice/Deputy Clerks. Ensures standard operating procedures and Florida statutes are followed. |
Master Clerk | Achieve Senior Clerk level for each division within Court/Non-Court area. Successful completion of interview process. 20 years of experience required. | Subject matter expert/mentor. Partner with Chief of Operations on training, morale and personnel. Ensures standard operating procedures and Florida statutes are followed. |
Supervisory Requirements and Responsibilities

The Leadership Development Trainings will be administered by Dr. Joel Bolante, Flagler College. The purpose is to provide training on the fundamentals of leadership and supervision to Directors, Supervisor and Chiefs within the St. Johns County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller’s Office.
